1 person racing solo
Competitor must be at least 16 years old by race start
Competitor completes the entire course, over two days, on their own
Male and female solo categories on an Open basis. Awards provided for 1st, 2nd & 3rd
Competitors must provide their own kayaks for both days. See Equipment List for specific kayak details. X1 competitors do not canoe
Competitors require a current (no more than 5 years old) Grade 2 Kayak Certificate, or equivalent, by the 1st of March 2020
Competitors must have a support crew for the race. This is restricted to a maximum of 2 people and 1 vehicle. Official signage will be provided for the support crew vehicle which will permit access into Transition Areas. The support crew vehicle must be capable of carrying a bike and kayak around the course

Competitors are supported by the event organisers who will transport all duffle bags, equipment, kayaks and canoes around the course. Equipment and duffle bags must be packed and dropped with event staff the day prior to each racing start
4 person relay team
All team members must be at least 16 years old by race start
Only two team members racing on a stage, staying together (within 100m) at all times. Non-racing team members 'support' racing pair. Racing pairs change over at Transition Areas between stages. Team members permitted to do a maximum of 4 (out of 7) stages
Mixed teams on an Open basis qualify for awards (provided for 1st, 2nd & 3rd). All male and all female teams permitted to enter but do not qualify for awards
Two of team canoe on Day 1 and two kayak on Day 2 (can be same two or different). Pre-inflated canoes are provided for Day 1. Kayaks/spraydecks are provided for Day 2. Kayaks and canoes will be transported by the organisers

Teams self support and must bring a vehicle for the race. Two persons are racing at any time and the other two will travel in the vehicle, with related equipment, between the stages to Transition Areas. Kayaks and canoes for teams will be transported by the organisers so vehicles do not require kayak cradles. Absolutely no support to be provided outside of Transition Areas

Competitors must read and accept the Consent Statement, as outlined on the Entry Form, as part of entry.
Every competitor accepts before starting that they are responsible for their own safety during the event. Every competitor accepts, in the X2 and X4 categories, that decisions must be made in the best interest of the team and not the individual.
Each competitor must have sufficient skills, experience and fitness to undertake an event of this nature. Competitors must ensure that they have a comprehensive understanding of the abilities of their team mate. Every competitor and team must accept that they will be asked to leave the course if they deemed to have insufficient outdoor skills, fitness or generally fail to meet the standards expected at Red Bull Defiance. Every competitor enters in the knowledge that if they become unranked or fall a long way behind expected time estimates that the organisers are not obliged to allow the team to continue on the course.
Competitors must pass on any relevant and important medical information to the event organisers and any team mates before the start of the event.
The organisers highly recommend that all competitors have appropriate insurance to cover any equipment loss or damage. International competitors must have appropriate insurance cover over and above that provided by the organisation. International competitors should ensure that their insurance will cover repatriation costs back to their home country.
All competitors must agree to abide by the Race Rules as set out on this website and accept any penalties applied for breaches of said rules.
All competitors must agree to carry all mandatory equipment as set out in the Equipment list.
Cancellations & Refund Policy
If a registered team wishes to cancel their participation in the event, for whatever the reason, the team must notify the event organisers in writing via the email firstname.lastname@example.org, providing his/her name, team name and contact details.
Entry refunds requested from 1st August 2019 to 30th November 2019 will receive a 50% refund of entry fees. Entry fees are non-refundable from 1st of December 2019. All additional purchases and bank charges are non-refundable. Refunds will be made in one payment to the team administrator and will not be split between the team members.
If a team or competitor cannot make the event, they are not permitted to transfer their entry to a future edition of the event. Teams or solos are permitted to transfer or sell their entry to another team or solo, if available. This will be a transaction between the teams and the event organisers will not, in general, facilitate putting teams in touch with each other. The original team administrator must notify email@example.com if an entry has been transferred or sold.
If two teams do not have sufficient members and decide to join together, this will be strictly considered as one team cancelling their entry. Refund policy will be as stated above, no exceptions.
If any competitor is deemed not competent enough to undertake the event whilst participating, the whole team will be disqualified and no refund will be given. Details of expected competencies are be promulgated on this web site and in the Newsletters. However, it is a pre-requisite of entry that every competitor and team enters the event with their eyes wide open and that they have investigated the likely scenarios they will face during the race.
If the event, or any part thereof, is cancelled, postponed, shortened, or modified in any way, or if any of the amenities, goods, or services in relation to the event are no longer provided, whether due to force majeure, legal restrictions, disputes, safety reasons, failure by service providers to perform, or any other reason or cause, the entry fees and all other fees paid will not be refundable.
