" The Aspiring Valley is internationally renowned for it's views and at the heart of this is Mt Aspiring itself and the Matukituki River which runs out of the National Park into Lake Wanaka. Competitors will use this stage to fuel up, pick good lines through the moving water and prepare themselves for the final two stages. "

STAGE 5 - Canoe (X2) Kayak (X1/X4)

The Matukituki River is the next challenge with X2 tandems using inflatable canoes and X1/X4 competitors using kayaks. The river originates from the Main Divide mountain ranges near Mount Aspiring and their largely glacier-fed waters until it drains into Lake Wanaka at the lake’s southwestern edge. The river is not as technical as the Day 1 Clutha River, with most rapids rating at Grade 1, but it makes up for it with incredible scenery – glaciers, waterfalls and high mountain peaks everywhere you look. The exit at West Wanaka Bridge will be a welcome sight as teams edge closer to the finish line.
