" Don’t be fooled by the cruisy start of this stage. This run never gets any easier and feels much longer than it is. "

Sam Stedman – Course Director

STAGE 2 - Trail RUN: coachable creek track

The start of Stage 2 follows an old logging road beside Coachable Creek. It passes a succession of rapids and deep pools along the way before it veers away from the road. It then starts to climb over a steep ridge, crossing several creeks along the way. It is a solid and technical climb, taking teams through spectacular and mature rainforest. From the ridge, the trail descends into a steep gorge, emerging at the base of Wispy Falls that plunges from a sheer rock escarpment into a deep pool. Above here, the trail climbs the gorge wall onto a basaltic plateau above the pool. This strenuous route is an outstanding wilderness experience and will test the teams stamina and grit. Tough climbs, technical trails are only the least of it. The rainforest can be full of surprise that aren’t always pleasant. Teams may encounter leeches, slippery rocks and roots, technical trails and creek crossings. They need to watch out for cassowaries, snakes, wait-o-while vines and stinger tree.
